Problems installing an early version of Maya on Snow Leopard? I feel your pain!
My MacBook Pro hard disk crashed. Apple replaced it with Snow Leopard installed, rather than reinstalling my original Leopard. I was fine with that, until I realized Maya 2008 would not install on Snow Leopard. I was on the verge of reverting back to Leopard, but found a workaround instead. Here’s what I did:
- copied the maya2008 install folder from the original DVD to my hard disk
- right click on Maya2008.mpkg & select “Show Package Contents”
- right click on Maya_core2008.pkg & select “Show Package Contents”
- open Resources folder and right click on InstallationCheck, opening with Text Edit
- scroll to bottom of file and add the following to the block with exit 0:
10.*|10.6|10.6.*
You only need to edit this one line.
So, the entire line should look something like this:
10.4|10.4.*|10.5|10.5.*|10.*|10.6|10.6.*)
- save and install Maya
That’s it! The installation guide says maya2008 works with “Mac OS X version 10.4 or later”, and now it really does!
